Grandparents DayOn January 29, 2010 over 200 grandparentstraveled from far and wide to join theirgranddaughters for an all-school mass aspart of Marian’s annual Grandparents Daycelebration. The focus of the mass was“Embracing our Roots.” Students reflectedon their heritage and the gifts given to themby their grandparents.The day concluded with a reception andeach student posed for a photograph withher grandparent(s). Marian then sent eachphotograph as a gift to our honored gueststhanking them for the roots they plantedthat led their granddaughters to Marian.Marian hosts monthly all-school liturgies asone component of its spiritual developmentprogram.College Athletic SigningsAs leaders on the court or field or in the water, 16 Marian seniors signed letters of intentaccepting scholarships to participate in collegiate volleyball, softball, basketball, soccer andswimming. This is the greatest number of annual athletic college scholarship recipients inMarian’s history.• Amelia Ambrose signed to play soccer for Loyola University of Chicago.• Monica Bosiljevac signed to play soccer for the University of Nebraska – Omaha.• Sara Borowiak signed to play softball for the University of Nebraska - Kearney.• Kelly Lange signed to play soccer at Wayne State College.• Julianne Mandolfo signed to play volleyball for Creighton University.• Vicky McIntyre signed to play basketball for Oklahoma State University.• Ellen McCormick signed to play soccer for the University of Wyoming in Laramie.• Melanie McCormick signed to play soccer for the University of Nebraska – Omaha.• Claire McKay signed to swim for Xavier University.• Shelby Mendlik signed to play softball for Doane College.• Ellie Pesavento signed to play volleyball for the University of Nebraska - Kearney.• Margaret Powers signed to play soccer for Iowa State University in Ames.• Jeri Simon (not pictured) signed to play softball for Iowa Western Community College.• Rachel Thrash signed to play basketball for Benedictine College in Atchison, KS.• Logen Watts signed to play soccer for the University of Nebraska – Omaha.Tom and Charlene Braun, grandparents ofsophomore Allison Braun, carrying up the gifts atall-school mass on Grandparents Day.14
