Brianna BacaService AwardIn every fundraiser, event or service project, there is always onegirl who acts surreptitiously. This young woman takes pleasurein contributing <strong>to</strong> the success of an event, without being in thelimelight. At <strong>Marian</strong>, that girl is Brianna Baca.During Brianna’s senior year, she was literally behind the scenes ofboth the fall musical and winter drama as the student direc<strong>to</strong>r. Inaddition, Brianna blogged on <strong>Marian</strong>’s website about her experiencesat direc<strong>to</strong>r as well as other events.Dedicated and dependable, Brianna was a frequent visi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> themotherhouse and also served as a tu<strong>to</strong>r at a local grade school.She further developed her leadership skills as a member of thePolar Plunge Board of Direc<strong>to</strong>rs, and continued <strong>to</strong> serve SpecialOlympics Nebraska during her summer as a volunteer. She creditsher experience with Special Olympics as life-changing, helping herrealize the importance of giving of oneself <strong>to</strong> others.Brianna just completed her first semester at Creigh<strong>to</strong>n University.Sam KoraleskiService AwardAlthough many people know Sam Koraleski for her contagioussmile, others know her as an accomplished artist and a determinedstudent. Sam challenges herself <strong>to</strong> achieve success in every class, andpushes herself <strong>to</strong> truly understand the material. She is involved inmany <strong>Marian</strong> activities including journalism, Campus Ministry andStudent Board.However, what may be most impressive is her knowledge of globalsocial injustices and her commitment <strong>to</strong> education world-wide. Samparticipated in <strong>Marian</strong>’s service/immersion trip <strong>to</strong> the DominicanRepublic, where she lived among the natives and helped maintainthe physical structure of a school. She also dedicated herself <strong>to</strong> atwo-week service trip <strong>to</strong> Uganda <strong>to</strong> witness the impact that oneperson, one school and one community can have on a village. Samconstantly lives and breathes the mission of <strong>Marian</strong> – “<strong>to</strong> give hope<strong>to</strong> the world.”Sam completed her first semester at the University of Nebraska-LincolnScholarships and HonorsThe 139 graduates of the Class of 2010 submitted 582 applications <strong>to</strong> 127 schools across the nation and around the world. One hundredpercent of the class matriculated <strong>to</strong> 29 schools in 20 states.
