<strong>Marian</strong> Artist Featured InUniversity Art ExhibitSenior Greer Schulte was the proud recipien<strong>to</strong>f a $10,000 talent scholarship fromNebraska Wesleyan University. Schulte’spencil self-portrait was featured in theuniversity’s “Bridge” exhibit, a collectionof artwork of any medium created by themost talented high school juniors andseniors selected by art teachers from acrossNebraska . Greer is one of two <strong>Marian</strong>students whose artwork was featured in the“Bridge” exhibit.Fine Arts at <strong>Marian</strong> empowers each student<strong>to</strong> be confident in her expression of herselfon stage, on canvas or through music.Schulte has confidence on canvas and sharesher gift with the <strong>Marian</strong> community and nowwith Nebraska Wesleyan University.National Merit FinalistsTwo <strong>Marian</strong> seniors were named Finalists inthe 2010 annual National Merit ScholarshipProgram® – an honor earned by less thanone percent of the nation’s high schoolseniors. The students Finalists are MakaylaCaumeran and Alexis Fee.To become a Finalist, each studentmust have an academic record of highperformance, receive an endorsement andrecommendation from the administrationand submit qualifying SAT scores. Theymust also include a self-descriptive essayand information about their participationand leadership in school and communityactivities.These two girls are leaders in and out of theclassroom. Their commitment <strong>to</strong> excellenceis evident in their superior test scores andacademic standing. More than 160 <strong>Marian</strong>girls have been recognized by the NationalMerit Scholarship Program.Mission Day<strong>Marian</strong>’s Mission and Vision Committee,comprised of faculty, staff and students,hosted the first Mission Day on February 19,2010. The event celebrated <strong>Marian</strong>’s CoreValues and identity as a Servite school.Sister Ginny Silvestri, OSM, then Provincialof the Servants of Mary, kicked off this specialevent as she spoke <strong>to</strong> the entire school aboutthe his<strong>to</strong>ry of the Servants of Mary and<strong>Marian</strong>’s identity as a Servite school.Following, students, divided in<strong>to</strong> sixgroups, headed <strong>to</strong> breakout sessions thatfocused on one of <strong>Marian</strong>’s six Core Values– community, compassion, empowerment, <strong>Marian</strong> identity, service and spirituality. Eachbreakout session featured a guest speaker, ranging from alumnae, parents of alums, currentparents, staff, community friends and Servants of Mary, who addressed the way he/she livesout his/her particular <strong>Marian</strong> Core Value.At the end of the day, the student body reconvened for a closing prayer service. The Servantsof Mary sang <strong>to</strong> the students the “Salve Regina,” which translates <strong>to</strong> “Hail Holy Queen.”Scripture readings and petitions (based on the six Core Values) were read by members ofthe Esprit De Corps Club. Each club member then gifted the Servite Sisters with a flower,thanking them for <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>.The service concluded with the <strong>Marian</strong> community reciting a Core Values Pledge, which waswritten especially for Mission Day.
