Life at Penn: The College House Experience
Every corner of the campus and every hour of the day are
filled with the activities of an extraordinary collegiate community.
A vital part of this lively picture is the University’s
College House System. Reside high above campus in a
24-story skyscraper with panoramic views of Philadelphia
in the comfort of air-conditioning and in a secure and technologically
advanced environment.
The Summer College House has a House Dean—the most
visible member of the College House—and graduate assistants
living in residence who are active participants in
group events and become trusted friends and advisors to
each resident. Collectively, they introduce summer residents
to their colleagues, other aspects of University life,
and the City of Philadelphia. This group of talented staff
has individual responsibilities in programming and events,

governance, and they work collectively to enhance the
Summer College House experience.
Finally, Penn has a dedicated group of professional
staff in two key offices devoted to residential living. The
Department of Conference Services and the Office of
College Houses and Academic Services work as partners in
coordinating the overall housing experience. Conference
Services is responsible for staffing the Information Center
(front desk), maintaining the facilities, providing 24-hour
security and housekeeping, coordinating the on-line registration
process, room assignments and billing. College
Houses and Academic Services coordinates the hiring and
training of the graduate assistants, provides counseling
and crisis intervention and runs the computer network.
