Information published in this handbook should be used as a general guide. Please note that SPF policies are periodically reviewed and servicemen would be subjected to prevailing guidelines. In the event of any doubt, the serviceman should refer to the relevant directives or consult their Head Police National Service.
From its humble beginnings as a part-time National Service scheme in 1967, to its inception as a full time scheme on 24 th July 1975, Police National Service (PNS) has indeed come a long way. From its inception, Police National Service personnel have been helping to build Singapore into our best home. They have been working alongside their regular counterparts and been involved in most aspects of Police work to help keep the crime rate low for many years. Today, you will become a member of the Singapore Police Force tasked with upholding the law, maintaining and keeping the peace in the Republic of Singapore. I welcome you and trust that you will take pride and commit yourself fully to the service of our Nation. I am sure you will fi nd the experience exciting, enriching and rewarding. This handbook contains updated information on enlistment, training, the duties you will be expected to perform and the welfare benefi ts entitled to you as a Full- Time Police National Serviceman (PNSF). It will enable you to better understand the scope of Police National Service. I trust that you will fi nd the policing experience fulfi lling and meaningful. We will train you to be an effective and effi cient Police Offi cer to realize your full potential. The challenge is now for you to fully utilize this opportunity and fulfi ll the responsibilities entrusted upon you.
