Fraser <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Child</strong> and <strong>Youth</strong> Psychiatry General Teaching ClinicConcerned about yourchild or teen?• Have you noticed a change in yourchild’s behaviour?• Does your child’s mood seemunusually irritable or depressed?• Is your child excessively worried oranxious?• Has your child become increasinglyisolated from friends and family?• Does your child have difficulty copingwith problems and daily activities?• Have you noticed a significant changein your child’s sleeping or eatinghabits?• Does your child display frequentoutbursts of anger or rebellion?• Is your child experiencing intensenightmares or flashbacks from atraumatic event?• Does your child have intense moodswings or feelings of extreme highsand lows?• Does your child have difficulty withconcentration and attention?• Does your child have specific fears thatget in the way of his/her dailyactivities?• Has your child lost interest in activitieshe/she used to enjoy?• Does your child avoid social activitiesor have excessive concern about socialembarrassment?• Has your child refused to go to schoolor have you noticed a significantdecline in school performance?Please know help is available through a varietyof services, including the Fraser <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Child</strong>and <strong>Youth</strong> Psychiatry General TeachingClinic.The General Teaching Clinic is for childrenand youth from ages six to 18 years who livein Fraser <strong>Health</strong>.The clinic, staffed by psychiatrists, a clinicalsocial worker, psychiatric residents andmedical students, offers specializedassessments, consultation, and short termtreatment.Participation in the clinic is voluntary.Referral Process/Info‣ A referral from your family doctor orother medical specialist is required for aclinic appointment.‣ Information from other professionalsalready working with your child iswelcome.‣ The clinic provides a teachingenvironment for residents and medicalstudents. Families referred to theclinic must be willing to have theirchild or teen seen by a psychiatricresident and/or a medical student.‣ If a referral is not accepted to this clinic,you will be redirected to moreappropriate services.‣ <strong>Child</strong>ren or adolescents who needlonger-term support will be referred toappropriate resources in the community.‣ Once the appointment has beenscheduled, your doctor or medicalspecialist will be notified of the day andtime of the appointment. Your doctor ormedical specialist will let you know thedetails of your appointment.‣ It is your responsibility to confirm theappointment with the clinic.
