EuroMaint Rail Creative development – a natural part of every process The difference between merely solving a problem and transforming it into a new opportunity for the customer lies in our ability to develop ourselves and our offering. Creative development of technology and planning shall characterise each process and sub-process within EuroMaint Rail, from the first customer contact to final delivery. Customers benefit from creative development through higher availability, increased traffic safety, lower maintenance costs and continuously improved profitability. The difference between good and even better is not simply a result of what we do – but also how we do it. a technical systematic approach Technical faults emerge at component level although the cause may often arise at system level. Consequently this is where action needs to be taken so that faults are less common or in the best case scenario – absent altogether. To maintain the X2 trains we have created a work model whereby special maintenance engineers monitor important vehicle systems, analyse the faults and suggest improvements. This is a model we are introducing into more and more key contracts to reduce operational disruption and maintenance costs. Split-based maintenance Major overhauls are conventionally carried out by bringing the vehicle into the workshop for several days. If, instead, the overhauls are divided up into smaller measures, a process known as split-based maintenance, which can be carried out at different times and at different workshops, better use can be made of the vehicles’ operational breaks. Thanks to refined material and personnel planning, easy access to maintenance documentation and faster reporting, we thereby increase availability. Licence in Nordic region for view system EuroMaint Rail’s partnership with leading British company Delta Rail (formerly AEA Technology Rail) has intensified during the year. We have obtained the licence rights in the Nordic region for Delta Rail’s View system which automatically detects brake lining and wheel condition, thereby paving the way for condition-based maintenance. 20 The View system has achieved excellent results in the acceptance tests and evaluations at our workshop in Hagalund, in connection with maintenance for SJ AB’s X2 trains. The system is also installed at our workshop in Bro where we maintain SL’s commuter trains. From view system to work order The View system rapidly indicates technical faults. This means we can take action at an early stage, before the fault leads to serious operational disruptions and costly repairs. The long-term aim is to convert the View system’s data into information that automatically generates a work order. Our cost effectiveness is the customer’s profitability. ILS at the forefront of research Information and measurement technology achieve a great deal. However, all the data still needs to be translated into support in the management system if customers are to benefit from the new opportunities. This is why we are building up a special Integrated Logistics Support unit, ILS, for technology development, process optimisation, support systems and documentation. To force the pace of developments in the maintenance industry we also need to be more visible in the research community. Split-based refurbishment from aTC to ETCS The EU decision to replace the Automatic Train Control/ATC signalling system with the EU-wide European Train Control System, ETCS, means that in the long term all engines and engine coaches will need to be refitted to adapt to the new system. Our goal is to be able to offer split-based refurbishment. This is a method which, combined with our nationwide network of workshops, will entail considerable availability gains for our customers in Sweden.
