6 RegistrationSetting Up Alternate PIN ProcessingAlternate PINs for Registration AccessAlternate PIN processing allows you to require a student to enter an additional PINbefore he or she can perform initial add/drop activity for a term. Institutionstypically use this functionality to “force” a student to contact an advisor, who willprovide the PIN, before initially registering for the term. When a student tries toregister for the first time (via either the Add or Drop Classes page[bwskfreg.P_AddDrpCrse] or the Look Up Classes results page[bwskfcls.P_GetCrse]), if alternate PIN processing is turned on and an alternatePIN has been entered for the student on the Alternate Personal IdentificationNumber Form (SPAAPIN), then the system displays the Alternate PIN Verification(bwskfreg.P_AltPin) page. (If no alternate PIN has been entered on SPAAPIN,the system displays the requested page without displaying this page first.)The WEBALTPINA internal code on the Crosswalk Validation Form (GTVSDAX) isused to indicate whether the alternate PIN is required for registration access if it hasbeen set on SPAAPIN. WEBALTPINA works as follows:• If WEBALTPINA is set to Y, the system requires the student to enter his or heralternate PIN when trying to access registration related Web pages.• If WEBALTPINA is set to N, the student will not be required to enterthealternate PIN.• If a student does not have an alternate PIN assigned on SPAAPIN, he or she willnot be prompted to enter one regardless of the WEBALTPINA setting.Alternate PINs and Self-Service Management ControlsThe WEBMANCONT and WEBALTPINU internal codes on the Crosswalk ValidationForm (GTVSDAX) control alternate PINs and self-service management controls.• The WEBMANCONT internal code specifies whether third-party managementcontrols should be used to determine when students are eligible to register.WEBMANCONT works as follows:• If WEBMANCONT is set to Y, the web management controls defined onthe Third Party Registration Time Controls form (SFARGTC) determinethe time slots available for student registration.• If WEBMANCONT is set to N, registration priority groups as setup on theStudent Registration Group Form (SFARGRP) determine when a studentmay register on the Web.• The WEBALTPINU internal code specifies whether to use the PIN from theThird-Party Access Audit Form (GOATPAD) OR the PIN from the AlternatePersonal Identification Number Form (SPAAPIN) when processing the PINrange defined with management controls. When web management controls are enabled (that is, WEBMANCONT set to Y) anda PIN range is defined on SFARGTC, then the WEBALTPINU flag determines whichPIN to use for processing. The PIN must be within the range of PINs entered onStudent Self-Service Release 7.3 May 20066-108 User Guide Confidential
