You are saying to itthem that they have made an impression on you and it givesthem a sense of importance. Similarly when you do not recallsomeone’s name it indicates their lack of impression on you.The word ‘name’ is therefore synonymous with the word‘reputation’ or ‘character’ when it comes to human beings.The acquiring of knowledge about the attributes of Allah isclosely related to our knowledge of recognition of Allah.Just as we identify a writer from his/her style of writing and byparticular words and phrases which are peculiar to him/her; inthe same way every creation of Allah performs the followingtwo main functions of identifying its Creator and projectingthe attributes of it's Creator and recognising the purpose ofit's creation.The actual attributes of Allah are three; Hayy (Ever living),'Ãlim (All Knowledgeable) and Qadir (Power over everything).All the other attributes are branches of these three.The attributes of Allah cannot be separated from Him. e.g.'Ãlim -The one who is knowledgeable. Whilst a human beingacquires knowledge and is still a human being even withoutknowledge, Allah is knowledge itself. We try to understandHim through His Names but He is far superior to the names.Whatever one thinks of Allah, He is not that.
