In order to test oneself as how much he/she is attached toAllah, one must start looking in the form of concentriccircles:The innermost circle wouldoneself and how we deal withourselves. The next circle would be how wedeal with our parents. The outer circle would be ourcommunity.a) Looking at oneself:Am I kind and merciful to myself? We need to build a macro picture in our mind, which would befor example a good life in the hereafter. We know that thisworld is temporal and that each one of us will die. We knowthat there is life after death which is the actual life and this iswhat we are working towards. If we love ourselves, then wemust be prepared to live our life in this world and in thehereafter in a way where Allah’s Rahma is constant. Althoughthis Rahma is in abundance, it will stop when we die unless webuild channels between this Rahma and ourselves which areconstant. If we are working towards this ultimate goal, wewould ensure that we do not jeopardise our Aakhira by doinganything that is against the will of Allah. How do we ensurethis? There is a wonderful quote by Mester Eckhart; a Germantheologian who lived in the early 14 th century:“How long will men and women in the world keep drawing intheir colouring books an image of God that makes them sad?www.qfatima.com Page 27
