Jewish scriptures He is known as Yhwh/Elohim translated inEnglish as the Lord God. Yhwh, Yehova, Yahuwa all mean thesame thing. ‘Ya’ both in Hebrew and Arabic means Oh! ‘Huwa’or ‘Hu’ means He in Hebrew and Arabic. So Yehowa means ‘OhHE! Now’ let’s look at the word Elohim which is made up ofEloh + Im. In Hebrew, the suffix ‘Im’ is a plural of respect. Elohor Elah or Ilah means God.The name ‘Allah’ solely belongs to the One and Only God. Itcombines all His names – attributes and needs no introductionfrom others, whilst the other names are recognised whenadded to the name Allah. ‘Allah’ is not given to anyone otherHim, nor should it be ever used for anyone besides Him. Itmeans ‘One Who deserves to be loved’ and ‘into whomeveryone seeks refuge’. Unlike the word God which can bemade into Gods and Goddess, there is no feminine of theword Allah and neither is there a plural. When you think of Allah, think of 5 meanings:1. Qadeem – He did not become/was always there2. Wahdaniyya – Unique. You can’t compare Him to anyoneor anything. His relationship with each one us is unique.3. Baqa – Always will be. We should never lose hope in Him.4. Mukhalafatan ul-hawadith – the Creator has noresemblance to the created.5. Qiyam bi nafsihi – Self existence without needwww.qfatima.com Page 21
