2.3 Connections<br />
<strong>Q150T</strong> <strong>Sample</strong> <strong>Preparation</strong> <strong>System</strong><br />
Installation consists of the following steps:<br />
� Connect gas supplies (see below).<br />
� Make electrical connections (see page 12).<br />
� Connect the vacuum pump (see page 13).<br />
� Install the sample stage (see page 14).<br />
If you want to install a different insert than that supplied with your instrument, please see<br />
page 49. If you have ordered a <strong>Q150T</strong> <strong>ES</strong>, the instrument will be fitted with the sputter<br />
insert, unless you have specifically requested another configuration.<br />
Figure 2-1 shows the location of connectors and switches on the rear panel of the<br />
<strong>Q150T</strong>.<br />

1. Connect a suitable argon supply at a regulated input of 0.3bar (4psi) to the quick<br />
connect Argon gas connector on the rear panel (see Figure 2-1.<br />
2. Connect a suitable nitrogen supply at a regulated input of 0.3bar (4psi) to the<br />
quick connect Nitrogen connector on the rear panel. We do NOT recommend<br />
using air as the purge gas.<br />
If you prefer, you can use argon for both process and purge supplies. To do so, install a<br />
'T' piece across both gas inlets.<br />
Connectors are push-fit and will 'snap' into a locked position. To release a connector,<br />
depress the metal tongue.<br />
