_____________________________________________________________________________________________Driverless Motor VehicleDriverless Motor Vehicle: a driverless motor vehicle, though previously parked, or amotor vehicle out of control while being towed or pushed, is considered to be a motorvehicle in transport. Also, an abandoned motor vehicle, upon a roadway, is consideredto be a motor vehicle in transport. This principle does not apply to such devices as farmor industrial machinery, highway graders, construction machinery, or similar deviceswhich are not in use at the time of the crash for transport.Driver License Number: a unique number assigned by the authorizing agent issuing adriver license to the individual.Driveway: a roadway providing access to property adjacent to a trafficway.Driving Too Fast for Conditions: traveling at a speed that was unsafe for the road,weather, traffic or other environmental conditions at the time.Dump Truck: a truck which can be tilted or otherwise manipulated to discharge its loadby gravity.Dusk: the darker part of twilight especially at night.Edge Line: a pavement marking used to mark the edge of pavement for driver guidance.Ejection: an occupant’s body completely or partially thrown from the vehicle as a resultof a crash.Embankment: a mound of earth or stone above the original ground, built to hold backwater or to support a roadway.Emergency Use: indicates vehicles, such as military, police, ambulance, fire, etc., whichare on an emergency response. Emergency refers to a vehicle that is traveling withphysical emergency signals in use; typically red light blinking, siren sounding, etc.EMS Response Unit Name: name of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit thatresponded to the crash.Exceeded Authorized Speed Limit: driver was operating vehicle faster than postedspeed limit at time of the crash.Failed to Yield Right of Way: driver or non-motorist did not give way to another vehicle ornon-motorist as required.Fatal <strong>Crash</strong>: any motor vehicle or other road vehicle crash that results in fatal injuries toone or more persons.Fatal Injury: any injury that results in death within 12 months after the crash occurred.Fell Asleep, Fainted, Fatigue, etc.: driver experienced a temporary loss ofconsciousness or was operating in a reduced physical and mental capacity due toweariness, medication, or other drugs.Fire/Explosion: fire/explosion which was the cause or product of the crash.GLOSSARY_____________________________________________________________________________________________<strong>North</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> DMV-349 <strong>Crash</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>Instruction</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> Page 75
