2.3 OrientationOrientation is defined as the direction of the device with respect to the incoming wave.Orientation can be further categorized as:Point AbsorbersAttenuatorsTerminators2.3.1 Point AbsorbersPoint absorbers are devices with dimensions much shorter than the wavelength, and are thusnon-directional (Newman, 1977). Point absorbers can further be classified as floating,heaving devices or submerged, pressure differential devices. Floating, heaving devices canalso be either partially or fully submerged. An example of a point absorber is the Powerbuoy(Drew, 2009).2.3.2 AttenuatorsAttenuators are parallel to the wave propagating direction. Their lengths are typicallycomparable or longer than the wavelengths. Attenuators typically move via the motion ofthe wave.
