Press Release 30 June 2008<strong>Public</strong> <strong>views</strong> <strong>are</strong> <strong>welcome</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> plann<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> <strong>MTR</strong> <strong>Kwun</strong> <strong>Tong</strong> L<strong>in</strong>eExtensionMembers of <strong>the</strong> public <strong>are</strong> <strong>in</strong>vited to give <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>views</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> plann<strong>in</strong>gof <strong>MTR</strong> <strong>Kwun</strong> <strong>Tong</strong> L<strong>in</strong>e Extension which will connect <strong>the</strong> <strong>MTR</strong> Yau MaTei Station to Ho Man T<strong>in</strong> and Whampoa <strong>are</strong>a. The <strong>Public</strong> Consultation<strong>for</strong> this new railway l<strong>in</strong>e is jo<strong>in</strong>tly organized by <strong>the</strong> Kowloon CityDistrict Council and <strong>the</strong> <strong>MTR</strong> Corporation.Rov<strong>in</strong>g exhibitions and public <strong>for</strong>a <strong>are</strong> organized <strong>for</strong> members of<strong>the</strong> public at various locations <strong>in</strong> Hung Hom and Ho Man T<strong>in</strong> fromtoday (30 June 2008) until late July.Mrs Miranda Leung, General Manager – Corporate Relations of <strong>the</strong><strong>MTR</strong> Corporation, said, “We <strong>are</strong> look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong>ward to shar<strong>in</strong>g our<strong>in</strong>itial design with <strong>the</strong> local community and listen<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>views</strong>be<strong>for</strong>e we put toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> prelim<strong>in</strong>ary design of <strong>the</strong> railway l<strong>in</strong>e.”“The local community has been ask<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> railway service to beextended to <strong>the</strong> Whampoa and Ho Man T<strong>in</strong> <strong>are</strong>a,” said Mr Wong Kwok-keung,Chairman of <strong>the</strong> Kowloon City District Council, “We <strong>are</strong> happy towork closely with <strong>the</strong> <strong>MTR</strong> Corporation <strong>in</strong> conduct<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> publicconsultation of this new rail l<strong>in</strong>e that can best suit <strong>the</strong> needsof <strong>the</strong> community.”The construction of <strong>the</strong> railway extension is expected to commence<strong>in</strong> 2011 <strong>for</strong> completion <strong>in</strong> 2015. The <strong>Kwun</strong> <strong>Tong</strong> L<strong>in</strong>e Extension willextend from <strong>the</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Kwun</strong> <strong>Tong</strong> L<strong>in</strong>e at Yau Ma Tei to Whampoa,with an <strong>in</strong>termediate <strong>in</strong>terchange station at Ho Man T<strong>in</strong>.
