Activity Status CodesOnce <str<strong>on</strong>g>groundwater</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> has been c<strong>on</strong>firmed, either the regulated entity or an agency will address the<str<strong>on</strong>g>groundwater</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> incident. C<strong>on</strong>firmed incidents of c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> are generally addressed byfollowing predictable sequence of acti<strong>on</strong>s until it is c<strong>on</strong>cluded that no further acti<strong>on</strong>s are necessary orrequired. Once c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> has been detected or is suspected, initial acti<strong>on</strong>s c<strong>on</strong>sist of validati<strong>on</strong> ofsampling results or quality assurance c<strong>on</strong>trols to c<strong>on</strong>firm c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> has occurred and is man-induced. Aninvestigati<strong>on</strong> to study the extent, compositi<strong>on</strong>, and circumstances of the c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> follows thec<strong>on</strong>firmati<strong>on</strong> of c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong>.Additi<strong>on</strong>al acti<strong>on</strong>s may or may not be required based <strong>on</strong> the investigati<strong>on</strong> findings. If the investigati<strong>on</strong> findsthat further acti<strong>on</strong>s are required, the planning of corrective acti<strong>on</strong> measures to address the c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> andsource are initiated. Following the development of the corrective acti<strong>on</strong> plan, acti<strong>on</strong>s are taken to implementthe plan and physically address the c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> and source. The effectiveness of the corrective acti<strong>on</strong>measures is generally m<strong>on</strong>itored during and after the implementati<strong>on</strong> of the plan. Ultimately, the correctiveacti<strong>on</strong> measures are c<strong>on</strong>sidered completed when the site has been remediated, the source has been removed, orwhen no further acti<strong>on</strong>s are required. The activity status codes are further described in Figure 6.29
