1.3.4 Focus Group Discussion
The points for the discussion among the focus groups would be taken from the
materials provided by FSS and WAAG communications regarding the radio
program. The design of the discussion guides and formats shall be carried out in
such a way that, peculiar issues of each major area could be well addressed.
Furthermore, selected programs from “Dewel” shall be reviewed by the FG
discussants before the discussion begins to give them highlights.
Every FGD is expected not to exceed one hour. The moderators will first introduce
the aim of the FGD and then open the floor for free discussions. Participants will
be encouraged to freely express their opinions. In order to avoid some
irregularities, such as few persons dominating the discussion, gender bias and age
gap, the participants will be divided among their age and societal groups.
1.3.5 In-depth Interview
Questions for the in-depth interview will also be designed after reading through
the project design and other relevant documents. Each key informant interviewed
in-depth briefed based on the tasks assigned on the division of responsibilities
among the organizations during the project design. Nevertheless, questions such
as their general impression about the program are included.
1.4 Advantages and Limitations
This kind of study has its own advantages and limitations. The advantage of using
qualitative analysis method is that the analysis of the FGDs, the questionnaires and
the in-depth interviews with in a limited sample size, help to avoid bias, which
could have resulted if the results were described in percentages and the
conclusion, was drawn from the percentage only. Furthermore, the variation of the
data facilitated the process of drawing more information for analysis.
