Climate Change and Food Security: setting the track for the ... - FAO

agriculture to food security: how food systems deliver nutritional security, the current and
future interactions of food chains and climate change, and what can be done in future to both
adapt and mitigate in the non-agricultural components of the food system. Of course agriculture
is the foundation of food security. But there is great scope for progress on managing food
security under climate change if we address not only food production but also issues like postharvest
losses, food waste, uncoordinated reserves and trade, and inefficient distribution to
those people and places most at risk from food insecurity and poor nutrition.
This analysis could usefully cover the political economy as well as the technical side – questions
like how well different social groups are able to access food, and how well they are able to
influence markets or other important institutions as they are affected by climate change (e.g.
men/women, rural/urban, rich/poor, net-food-buyer/net-food-seller, Annex 1countries / Annex
2 countries).
