Employment Security DepartmentSoftware saves mailing costs of unemploymentinsurance checksThe federal Department of Labor pays the mailing costs when EmploymentSecurity sends out unemployment insurance warrants. The Department of Laborasked the agency to further automate its mailing process to save money.Pre-sorted mail sent by Employment Security cost 29.5 cents <strong>for</strong> each piece.The agency did an analysis of its mailing process and found that enhancedsoftware would permit additional bar coding <strong>for</strong> the mail.<strong>Results</strong>★ A cost of 25.4 cents <strong>for</strong> each piece of mail, compared to the previous rate of29.5 cents.★ Cost savings of $8,700 between January 22 and March 31, 1998.
