Governor's Office of Indian AffairsTribes and state government work in partnershipIn 1996, as part of an initiative to enhance government-to-government contact,the Governor's Office of Indian Affairs put together a program to increase tribalparticipation in the legislative process. They requested that each of the 27federally recognized tribes designate a tribal liaison, which would be the maincontact to receive updates, faxes, notices and letters regarding legislativematters.As part of that effort, several workshops were conducted to educate the triballiaisons about the legislative process. Also, the office created a "TribalOrganization and Personnel Directory."Results★ The tribes participate in the legislative process in unprecedented numbers.★ There is greater understanding between the legislative branch and the tribes.★ The directory, which lists the departments of each of the 27 tribes, along withthe state agency tribal liaison personnel, has enhanced the ease of access instakeholder activities for both the state and the tribes.Team members: Debora Juarez, Jennifer Scott, and Rebecca Nichols.CONTACT: Debora Juarez (360) 753-241167
Health Care AuthorityFiling claims electronically saves timeClaims submitted by providers to the Uniform Medical Plan take an average of14 days to process. The Health Care Authority began an electronic filing with 50providers with the highest volume of claims.
