Utilities and Transportation CommissionFact sheets get information quickly to customersStaff in the Transportation Operations Section spent considerable time on thetelephone providing representatives of transportation companies informationabout requirements for transporting people or property for hire. Washington Council for Prevention of Child Abuse and NeglectAn infant not shaken is a tragedy avoidedShaken Baby Syndrome is all-too-tragic evidence that babies indeed are fragile.And the tragic outcomes of tiny children shaken severely by adults often areportrayed in our courts and the news media.An educational effort by the Washington Council for Prevention of Child Abuseand Neglect and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center warns of thedangers of shaking infants.Results★ "Babies Are Fragile," a public service announcement (PSA) featuring Sonicsstar Gary Payton has earned generous air time throughout the state -- plusthe Crystal Award of Excellence sponsored by the Communicators Awardsfrom an independent organization of communications professionals.★ Plans to produce another PSA -- this time featuring Drew Bledsoe, formerWashington State University football star who now plays for the New EnglandPatriots.★ A stronger message -- "Never shake a child" to replace "Please don't shake achild."★ More direct information on the possible results of severe shaking be providedto better inform the public.★ Plans to develop training sessions on Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention forprofessionals in the child abuse prevention field and for volunteers who willshare this information with care givers and their communities.Team Members: Kikora Dorsey, Mira Bacungan, Debbie Anastasi Black,Frances Carr, Claudia Feigner, Diederik Peters, Fredi Rector, Kelly StockmanReid, and Jonathan Stacks.CONTACT: Kikora Dorsey (206) 464-615174
