Water Resources Development Criteria/<strong>Standards</strong> Manual Chapter 5UNIT <strong>III</strong> - <strong>Sanitary</strong> <strong>Sewer</strong> <strong>Design</strong> <strong>Standards</strong>Pump Stations5.1 PurposeCHAPTER 5 – PUMP STATIONSThis chapter discusses the requirements for the design and construction <strong>of</strong> small wastewaterpumping stations. More specifically, the chapter:• Outlines submittal requirements as defined by the Department <strong>of</strong> Water Resources• Identifies the planning and design approach to be used for pump stations• Defines specific criteria by which pump stations will be designed• Discusses life cycle cost analysisThe chapter is designed to give general guidelines to be adhered to during pump station design.Water Resources shall be consulted before actual design to discuss features that may be requiredon a case-by-case basis.5.2 Submittal RequirementsSubmittals for pump stations shall consist <strong>of</strong> a Concept <strong>Design</strong> Plan, an Engineering Report, andFinal <strong>Design</strong> Plans. Approval by Water Resources will be required prior to authorization <strong>of</strong> anysucceeding design phase.5.2.1 Conceptual Approval ProcessThe Conceptual Approval process shall consist <strong>of</strong> Concept <strong>Design</strong> Plan and EngineeringReport formulation. The following sections outline specific requirements.5.2.1.1 Concept <strong>Design</strong> PlanThe purpose <strong>of</strong> a Concept <strong>Design</strong> Plan is to provide Water Resources withpreliminary design data for proposed pump stations and related appurtenancessuch as force mains. The preliminary data will allow Water Resources todetermine compatibility with existing systems and will provide the foundation forjustification <strong>of</strong> a pump station alternative.The Concept <strong>Design</strong> Plan shall include the following:A.
