Health Occupations: Year Two (<strong>Course</strong> #8045)Fee: NoneThis is a year‐long senior level class. While there are no prerequisites, it is highly recommended thatIntroduction to Health Occupations or Health Occupations Year One be taken.Students will explore and gain knowledge in a variety <strong>of</strong> healthcare treatments and therapies. Anintroduction <strong>of</strong> surgery, pharmacology, oncology, and complementary/ alternative medicine will beincluded. In addition, students will learn and perform vital signs, CPR and first aid. Relevant terminologyand medical abbreviations will be emphasized. Students will gain knowledge <strong>of</strong> assessing patient's healthhistory, patient treatment and diagnosis. Students may want to enroll in the health occupations co‐opprogram or the senior level youth apprenticeship program to gain further hands‐on exposure in theirchosen healthcare field.Health Occupations Youth Apprenticeship Work Experience ‐ Junior Year (<strong>Course</strong> #8061)This is a career related work experience with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 10 hours per week. To begin this workexperience students must have completed a Basic Nursing Assistant <strong>Course</strong>. (See Basic Nursing Assistantcourse description and attend the mandatory information meetings.) Parents are required to attend theinformation meeting with the student. This program involves an arrangement between the students,employer, parents, and their Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator. With assistance from the YouthApprenticeship Coordinator, the students will secure employment in a long term care facility or hospital.Training is supervised by job site mentors. This work experience provides students with wages and highschool credit. Students in this program are required to complete one job shadow. Students will beevaluated by their employer and will receive a grade each semester for their performance on the job site.Students will receive 1 credit per semester for this work experience. Students must be enrolled in HealthOccupations Year One.Health Occupations Youth Apprenticeship Work Experience ‐ Senior Year (<strong>Course</strong> #8067)This is a career related work experience with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 10 hours per week. Students willreceive 1 credit per semester for this work experience. Students must be enrolled in Health OccupationsYear Two.34
