In the second semester students will gain knowledge <strong>of</strong> patienttreatments, diagnosis and specialized fields. An introduction <strong>of</strong> surgeries, pharmacology, healthassessment and alternative medicine will also be taught. Health Occupations Co‐op/Internship (<strong>Course</strong> #8047)Students will receive on‐the‐job training that will help prepare them for their future healthcare careers.This program involves a cooperative arrangement between the students, employers, parents, and their coopcoordinator. With assistance from the co‐op coordinator, the students will secure employment thatclosely matches their healthcare career choice, including dental <strong>of</strong>fices, pharmacies, vet clinics, and medical<strong>of</strong>fices. There are opportunities for job shadowing and networking with a variety <strong>of</strong> healthcarepr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Students are evaluated by their co‐op job supervisor and receive a grade for theirperformance at the job site. In addition, 2.0 credits may be granted upon completion <strong>of</strong> the program.Wages and volunteer opportunities are available.Health Occupations Youth Apprenticeship Work Experience ‐ Junior Year (<strong>Course</strong> #8061)This is a career related work experience with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 10 hours per week. To begin this workexperience students must have completed a Basic Nursing Assistant <strong>Course</strong>. (See Basic Nursing Assistantcourse description and attend the mandatory information meetings.) Parents are required to attend theinformation meeting with the student. This program involves an arrangement between the students,employer, parents, and their Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator. With assistance from the YouthApprenticeship Coordinator, the students will secure employment in a long term care facility or hospital.Training is supervised by job site mentors. This work experience provides students with wages and highschool credit. Students in this program are required to complete one job shadow. Students will beevaluated by their employer and will receive a grade each semester for their performance on the job site.Students will receive 1 credit per semester for this work experience.
