Physics I (Course #1324)Lab Fee: $8.00Physics I is offered for college bound students and for students not planning on college who desire afundamental background in physical science. The content of this course includes the study of forces, motion, work, power, wave motion, sound, heat, light, radioactivity, static and direct current electricityand their application in everyday living.AP Physics (Course #1334)Lab Fee: To be determinedThe Advanced Placement Physics course is designed to allow students to pursue college‐level studies whileattending high school. Although this course will provide students with a solid foundation in physics, APPhysics will not replace college courses for those students planning to study advanced physics orengineering. AP Physics corresponds to a one‐year terminal course in college physics. This course providesa systematic introduction to the main principles of physics and emphasizes the development of problemsolvingability. The content of this course is presented in greater depth and at a more rapid pace than inPhysics I. Topics of study include Newtonian Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Waveand Optics, and Atomic and Nuclear Physics. In studying the above topics, students will develop theirabilities to: 1) read, understand, and interpret physical information; 2) describe and explain the sequence ofsteps in the analysis of a particular physical phenomenon or problem; 3) apply basic mathematicalreasoning; and 4) perform experiments and interpret the results. This course will prepare students to takethe AP Physics B Exam, the results of which may be used for determining college credit.Applied Science‐C (Course # 1332) Not offered at NHSLab fee: $5.00This semester course is a laboratory course designed to give students hands‐on practical experiences and abackground in the structure of matter, atoms, the periodic table, acids, bases and solutions, and chemicalreactions (basic chemistry principles). Applications related to everyday occurrences will assist students inbecoming a more scientifically aware citizenry. This course is not open to students who have successfullycompleted or who are concurrently enrolled in Chemistry I.Applied Science ‐ P (Course # 1336) Not offered at NHSLab Fee: $5.00This semester course is a laboratory course designed to give students hands‐on practical experience and abackground in motion and forces, electricity and magnetism, and waves, light, and sound (basic physicsprinciples). Applications related to everyday occurrences will assist students in becoming morescientifically aware. This course is not open to students who have successfully completed or who areconcurrently enrolled in Physics I.55
