identifies the student’s performance level on the <strong>CMT</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Checklist</strong> in these fourareas.For each content area, i.e., Reading, Communication and Mathematics, there are threeperformance levels:3 Independent2 Proficient1 BasicFor the Access <strong>Skills</strong> there are three different performance levels;3 Application2 Practice1 ApplicationEach of these Performance Level Descriptors has been developed by teachers to reflectthe grade level content standards included in the Connecticut Curriculum Framework inthe areas of Reading, Communication and Mathematics. The Connecticut CurriculumFramework defines what a student is expected to know and do in specific curriculumcontent areas at each grade level. The Performance Level Descriptors describe thetypical performance and content represented by a particular <strong>CMT</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Checklist</strong> score.This information provides an overview of the extent to which a student with significantcognitive disabilities is meeting expectations of the content standards included in theConnecticut Curriculum Framework.In order for parents to understand the scoring report they must first refer to their student’sIndividual Score Report for a specific area, i.e., Access <strong>Skills</strong>, Reading, Communicationor Mathematics. The student’s performance level is reported in the upper left-handsection of the each report. They must then read the Performance Level Descriptor thatcorresponds to this performance level. The Performance Level Descriptors are organizedby area, i.e., Access <strong>Skills</strong>, Reading, Communication and Mathematics. Within eacharea, the Performance Level Descriptors are arranged from highest to lowest, i.e.,Independent, Proficient, Basic. In addition a <strong>Checklist</strong> Folder for parents thataccompanies the score report contains additional information about the <strong>CMT</strong>/<strong>CAPT</strong><strong>Skills</strong> <strong>Checklist</strong>.(See Appendix I for copies of the PLDs and a copy of the explanatory materialdistributed to parents with the Individual Student Reports.)11
