For the investigation of differentials in the proportion of children who were fully immunised,children aged 12-59 months were selected as the base, since children under one year had not had theoppommity to be fully vaccinated. As seen in Table 6.6, both residence and educational status of themother are associated with immunisation coverage. The highest rates of full immunisation are reportedfor children of urban women (67 percent) and children of women with secondary or more education (77percent). Catholic mothers are somewhat more likely to possess health cards for their children whilewomen in the other or no religion category are least likely to possess health cards.Table 6.6Among All Children Under Five, the Percentage With Health Cards, the PercentageWho Are Recorded as I,ununised on the Health Card or Who Are Reported by the Mother as HavingBeen In~nunlsed, and ~ong Children With Health Cards, the Percentage for Whom BCG, DPT, Polioand Measles Ir~unlsatlons Are Recorded on the Health Card t According to Background Characteristics,ODN8, 1986Percent of Children:Percent of Children With Health Cards Who Have Received:Immunlsed Immunlsed DPT Polio No.Background With as Recorded as Fully ofCharacter- Health on Health Reported Mea- Im/nu- ChilistlcCards Cards by Mother BCG 1 2 3 1 2 3 sles nlsed drenALL CHILDREN UNDER 5Age in Months< 6 38.3 38.3 19.0 99.1 77.1 36.7 9.2 77.1 36.7 9.2 0.9 0.0 2856 - 11 39.8 39.8 31.4 99.5 98.5 84.7 61.3 98.5 84.7 62.8 26.3 23.4 34412 - 23 36.9 36.9 36.4 99.5 98.2 87.2 75.2 98.6 87.2 75.2 75.2 67.4 59124 - 35 24.5 24.5 53.3 98.4 19.2 86.5 74.6 98.4 89.7 74.6 78.1 70.6 51436 - 47 11.7 11.7 53.7 94.7 98.7 84.0 58.7 98.7 84.0 58.7 81.3 56.0 64448 - 59 9.7 9.7 61.0 100.0 94.9 89.8 67.8 96.6 89.8 67.8 69.5 55.9 608Total 24.3 24.3 45.8 98.8 95.0 78.9 60.2 95.2 79.4 60.5 57.2 47.4 2986CHILDREN 12-59 MONTHSResidenceUrban 25.7 25.7 55.8 99.2 87.3 86.4 72.8 97.7 87.6 72.4 78.6 67.3 1000Rural 18.6 18.6 53.1 97.7 99.1 87.3 70.1 99.1 87.8 70.6 79.2 62.4 1186Riverlne 0.0 0.0 10.5 171EducationNone 15.6 15.6 46.8 98.3 97.7 86.1 67.4 97.1 87.2 67.4 76.7 61.6 1103Primary 22.2 22.2 51.9 98.9 97.8 83.2 66.9 98.9 83.7 66.3 75.3 60.1 803Secondary + 28.4 28.4 60.5 98.4 99.2 93.0 83.6 99.2 93.8 84.4 86.7 76.6 451ReligionCatholic 23.8 23.8 47.6 98.5 95.4 86.2 72.3 96.9 87.7 72.3 80.0 66.2 273Protestant 19.5 19.5 50.9 98.1 99.1 87.6 71.1 99.1 88.2 71.1 80.8 65.2 1654Muslim 21.5 21.5 56.1 i00.0 98.8 87.7 74.1 98.8 88.9 74.1 72.8 64.2 376Other/None 18.5 18.5 44.4 100.0 80.0 60.0 60.0 80.0 60.0 60.0 60.0 60.0 54Total 20.3 20.3 51,2 98.5 98.1 86.8 71.6 98.3 87.7 71.6 78.9 65.1 235761
