Primary School on the climb!Track and Field at ISSPrimary School NewsCongratulations <strong>to</strong> the students who participated in thetrack and field practices and meet. Beyond having fun,the students got a feel for being part of a team and learnedskills in many areas. Thank you <strong>to</strong> the many parents andstaff who helped direct activities and teach skills. Thankyou as well <strong>to</strong> the varsity track team for helping with thetrack meet, and <strong>to</strong> Ms Janiak for putting the practices andmeet in place.Congratulations <strong>to</strong> the cast of the Primary School musical,The Pinafore Pirates for three wonderful productions.Thank you <strong>to</strong> parents and staff for all that was done behindthe scenes with the set and costumes. I send a special thankyou <strong>to</strong> Zsuzsi Kallenberg for coordinating costumes, MarkEmery for sound and lighting, Sara Masham for musicdirection and Christine Kemp as direc<strong>to</strong>r for the musical.Some highlights for this school year include the consistenthard work and good progress in learning by the students,the all-school social in August and the InternationalFestival this spring, the assemblies for each grade level thatput every child on stage, the visits by parents <strong>to</strong> our openhouse, share in our learning in homerooms and in music,volleyball and track and field, sports <strong>off</strong>ered throughIBA, dance classes on Fridays, the winter concerts, bothmusicals, the trip <strong>to</strong> Soma Farm sponsored by the ParentsAssociation, Outdoor Education Weeks with Grades 4 and5, fantastic art displays, 100th day of school projects, classfield trips <strong>to</strong> extend the curriculum, enhanced learningwith new IT sources including class sets of iPod Touchand IPads, Grade 5 band in concert, Drop Everything andRead day, and walking along the corridor and watchingchildren solve differences and display respect <strong>to</strong>ward eachother.Last Day of SchoolOur last day of school classes is Thursday, 9 June. Buseswill leave at 12:15. No lunch will be served at school on 9June.First Days of School in August 2010A letter will be sent in early August <strong>to</strong> new and returningstudents announcing a 20-minute appointment <strong>to</strong> meetthe teacher on Monday, 15 August. This day provides atransition so children see where things are and build acomfort level at school, knowing where <strong>to</strong> go and feelingat home in a new room at school.
