Students must take pre-requisite artcourses and submit a portfolio for review beforebeing accepted into the program. Thisadmissions process helps to ensure thatstudents have a basic foundation of skillsnecessary to succeed in our challenging andcompetitive program.Despite the screening of students, NMAstudents enter the program with different sets ofexisting skills. Some are talented illustrators andartists, and others have limited backgrounds inart. Some have been using computers for manyyears, and others are relatively novices. Trying todesign lessons for students of varying skill level isanother challenge teaching in this field.Lastly, individual student goals range fromendeavoring to work immediately aftergraduation within the field, to hoping to start theirown businesses, to planning on continuing theireducation. Most NMA students want local jobs inthe industry immediately after graduation. Withthese factors in mind, my ultimate challenge is tobest prepare NMA students to be successful intheir next step in life, no matter what career oreducational direction they decide to pursue.Introduction section page 12
