Over the past four years, I taught seven different courses. Each course has its own web page, where Icontinually make refinements and improvements to course lessons, presentations, exercises, tutorials, andprojects. I custom designed all course web pages and link to them from my faculty web site.! Art 127 Graphic Symbolism! Art 128 Interface Programming 1! Art 155 Information Architecture! Art 222 <strong>Digital</strong> Multimedia! Art 249 Interface Design 2! Art 257 Motion Graphic Design! Art 258 Interface Programming 2! I have designed and implemented new learning techniques and assessment tools in the classroom with greatsuccess, such as the use of video lessons (screen recordings) and a new grading rubric. I have created 73video lessons to date.! I have received positive student and peer evaluations, and many of my students have gone on to graduateand become successful designers in the field and local industry.I have maintained “expertise in my discipline [new media arts and interface design] including content,methodologies, and an understanding of student educational needs.”! I continually stay up-to-date on all aspects of new media art and interface design in a variety of differentprofessional development initiatives, including attending conferences, going to talks and lectures, readingresearch papers and literature, and reading online articles, videos, and tutorials.! As a self-proclaimed “student-for-life”, I have taken several graduate level courses at the University of Hawaiiat Manoa over the past couple of years, including ICS 665 User Interfaces and Hypermedia, CIS 702Communication and Information Technologies, and CIS 720 Interdisciplinary Seminar in Communication andInformation Sciences. All of these courses further my expertise in my field and are part of my pursuit for afuture potential degree: a PhD in Communication and Information Science from UH Manoa.I have developed “an understanding of the relationship of [new media arts and interface design] to thestudents' total instructional experience and contributed to the development activities at the discipline andcampus level.”! I have served on several campus committees that directly address curriculum design, student experience,and campus planning. The most notable are the <strong>KCC</strong> Curriculum committee, the <strong>KCC</strong> Strategic Planningcommittee, and the <strong>KCC</strong> Sustainability committee.! I am one of the original members/planners of the Creativity Academies (CA) program, a new inter-disciplinarycurriculum that combines art, science, and technology. CA was initiated by the state of Hawaii's Departmentof Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) Creative Industries Division in partnership with<strong>KCC</strong>, the state Department of Education (DOE) and various individuals, organizations and businesses fromcreative and scientific industries.I have worked “independently and with colleagues to develop, revise and select curriculum materials,instructional techniques, and student-needs-assessment strategies at the course or discipline level.”! I am chairperson of a sub-committee responsible for revising and updating the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> interfacedesign Associate of Science (A.S.) degree curriculum. In order to do this, I spoke with students, conductedsurveys to collect data, researched other degree programs, set sub-committee goals, wrote agendas,scheduled and ran meetings, assigned tasks, and ultimately led a team of my colleagues and our advisoryboard to redesigning our curriculum and improving the student educational experience.! I am the faculty advisor to the <strong>KCC</strong> AIGA student group, a <strong>New</strong> <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> student organization interested indesign related topics.LeadershipTaking InitiativeIntroduction section page 4
