At first I was shownseveral men and some animals and othercreatures – among them were the educated rich,Englishmen, Muslims, myself, a chandala [9] , adog and a Muslim with a long beard holding aporcelain plate of rice in his hand. He put therice from the plate into everybody’s mouth. Itasted a little too.“Another day I was shown excreta, urine,cereal and all kinds of foodstuff. Suddenly thesoul emerged from within [my body] and tastedall of them – like the flame of a fire. It was justlike a tongue licking each article one by one. Ittasted everything, including the excreta andurine. I was thus shown that it is all one,without any difference.”
