He istelling M. that Ram Chatterji had come fromthe Dakshineswar Kali Temple to enquire afterhis health. He asks M. whether it is very coldat Dakshineswar.It is Monday, 4 January 1886. 21st of Pausha,the 14th day of the dark fortnight, 4:00 p.m.Narendra comes in and sits down. Thakurglances at him from time to time and smiles –it is as though he were beside himself with loveand affection for Narendra. He tells Mani witha sign, “He wept.” Thakur remains quiet forawhile. Then he says by signs to Mani thatNarendra had cried all the way from home.Everyone is silent; then Narendra speaks –Narendra — I am thinking of going theretoday.Sri Ramakrishna — Where?Narendra — To Dakshineswar. Tonight I willlight a fire under the bel tree and meditate.
