He has already takenpart in three triathlons at Skipton, Darlington <strong>and</strong>Ro<strong>the</strong>r Valley <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> races get harder <strong>and</strong> longertill he competes in <strong>the</strong> Leeds Triathlon in September.<strong>Bassetlaw</strong> News manage to catch up with him be<strong>for</strong>ehis next gruelling round.BL News: Why did you choose to participate in<strong>the</strong> triathlons?Mark Ladyman:I have participated in triathlons in <strong>the</strong> past - but quitefew years ago. I have always tried to keep relatively fit<strong>and</strong> this just seemed a good idea.BLN: What kind of training do you do <strong>for</strong><strong>the</strong> triathlons?ML: I try to swim a few miles each week, run around15 miles <strong>and</strong> cycle <strong>for</strong> four hours each week. Thankgoodness <strong>the</strong> light nights are here!BLN: Where do you do your training?ML: Mostly at <strong>the</strong> gym ei<strong>the</strong>r in Worksop or SheffieldBLN: What kind of tips would you give to anyoneconsidering entering a triathlon?ML: Be prepared, start with <strong>the</strong> races which are not toodifficult, <strong>the</strong>n slowly increase <strong>the</strong> intensity.BLN: How do you feel just be<strong>for</strong>e you start atriathlon competition?ML: To begin with I was very nervous, but as my traininghas progressed I feel a lot more confident that I willcomplete <strong>the</strong> race.BLN: How did you feel after your first triathlonin Skipton?ML: Totally whacked!BLN: Were you interested in sporting activities as achild/teenager?ML: Yes I have always played various sports, particularlyfootball, rugby <strong>and</strong> squashBLN: Who, if anyone, has encouraged/inspired yourlove of sports/triathlons?ML: There can now only be one - Eddie Izzard.BLN: What is/are your favourite sports?ML: There is no better sport to play than rugby, howeverage has caught up <strong>and</strong> I no longer play. So I enjoy being<strong>the</strong> perfect arm chair coach <strong>and</strong> watch any footie that’son <strong>the</strong> TV.BLN: Which famous sporting personality do youadmire most <strong>and</strong> why?ML: Lance Armstrong.
