To date, from<strong>the</strong> applications received. grants have beenawarded to a Bed <strong>and</strong> Breakfast business<strong>for</strong> refurbishment, an equestrian business <strong>for</strong>improvements <strong>and</strong> a garden stone sculptor<strong>for</strong> expansion of <strong>the</strong> business.To obtain <strong>the</strong>se grants <strong>the</strong>se businesseshad to prove to Local Action Groups, whoare made up of public <strong>and</strong> private partners,exactly what <strong>the</strong> money would be spenton <strong>and</strong> why. They also have to prove that<strong>the</strong> money <strong>the</strong> receive from <strong>the</strong> grants willbenefit <strong>the</strong> rural economy.For more in<strong>for</strong>mation please contact JimBurley on 01909 533 230 Email: jim.burley@bassetlaw.gov.ukWorksop businesses working toge<strong>the</strong>r<strong>Bassetlaw</strong> still streets aheadin new business start upsOfficial Business Link start up figures <strong>for</strong> new businessstartups in <strong>the</strong> 2009/10 financial year show morenew businesses started in <strong>Bassetlaw</strong> than in anyo<strong>the</strong>r district in Nottingham, o<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> City itself.Its total <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> year of 97 is five more than <strong>the</strong> 92 <strong>for</strong>2008/2009. Broxtowe was <strong>the</strong> next best district with a total <strong>for</strong><strong>the</strong> year of 71 with Rushcliffe close behind with 69 <strong>and</strong> Newark<strong>and</strong> Sherwood with 65. The City of Nottingham had 226 <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>year. Gedling was bottom of <strong>the</strong> log with 46.Commenting on <strong>the</strong> figures, Robert Wilkinson, <strong>the</strong> Council’seconomic development manager said, “The new businesseschoosing <strong>Bassetlaw</strong> in spite of continuing economic difficultiessays a lot <strong>about</strong> <strong>the</strong> confidence people have <strong>about</strong> <strong>the</strong> futureof <strong>the</strong> region. Between <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong>se new startups have created198 jobs in <strong>the</strong> district compared with 160 last year.
