To date, fromthe applications received. grants have beenawarded to a Bed and Breakfast businessfor refurbishment, an equestrian business forimprovements and a garden stone sculptorfor expansion of the business.To obtain these grants these businesseshad to prove to Local Action Groups, whoare made up of public and private partners,exactly what the money would be spenton and why. They also have to prove thatthe money the receive from the grants willbenefit the rural economy.For more information please contact JimBurley on 01909 533 230 Email: jim.burley@bassetlaw.gov.ukWorksop businesses working togetherBassetlaw still streets aheadin new business start upsOfficial Business Link start up figures for new businessstartups in the 2009/10 financial year show morenew businesses started in Bassetlaw than in anyother district in Nottingham, other than the City itself.Its total for the year of 97 is five more than the 92 for2008/2009. Broxtowe was the next best district with a total forthe year of 71 with Rushcliffe close behind with 69 and Newarkand Sherwood with 65. The City of Nottingham had 226 for theyear. Gedling was bottom of the log with 46.Commenting on the figures, Robert Wilkinson, the Council’seconomic development manager said, “The new businesseschoosing Bassetlaw in spite of continuing economic difficultiessays a lot about the confidence people have about the futureof the region. Between them these new startups have created198 jobs in the district compared with 160 last year.
