Shell meets energy demands throughsMARTer and Cleaner EnergyTabangao, Batangas. “This LNG facilitywill complement the Malampaya DeepWater Gas-to-Power Project’s capability. This is very important in diversifyingour energy mix and coming up withcleaner energy to meet growing energydemands and fuelling the country’sfuture,” he said.Shell companies in the PhilippinesCountry Chairman Edgar Chuajoined business leaders and decisionmakers from the energy, commercialand industrial sectors in the 3rdPhilippine Energy Efficiency Forum(PeeF) 2012 held on July 10, 2012 inSMX Convention Center in Pasay City,Manila.Themed “Driving Efficiency andCompetitiveness across the PowerSector Value Chain”, PeeF 2012 aimsto address the challenges of energysecurity and climate change throughenergy savings across the power sectorvalue chain. The business leaders, energy experts and policymaker’sshared their insights in identifying keydrivers for energy efficiency within thepower sector value chain.Speaking at the 3rd PeeF Forum 2012,Chua cited that rapid urbanisationand population boom are world’schallenges that trigger the demandfor more food, water and energy.“Unfortunately, along with the increasein energy demands is the increasein carbon dioxide (co 2) levels. Thechallenge therefore is to meet theenergy demand but cut co 2by halfto avoid serious climate change,” hesaid.Shell helps address this challenge byproviding smarter and cleaner energy.“We believe that smarter products, smarter infrastructure, and smarter use– the Shell Group’s Smarter Mobilityprogramme, are key campaign inaddressing this global challenge,” saidChua.“Fuel efficiency is key and Shell isat the forefront of this campaign. We have smarter products that don’tjust lower co 2emissions, lower fuelconsumptions but also lower operatingcosts which lead to a more sustainablebusiness growth for the transportsector,” Chua said.Chua also cited Shell’s cleaner energyprojects that will help address energydemands. He specifically cited theMalampaya Deep Water Gas-to-PowerProject which meets 40-45% of Luzon’spower generation requirements (totalof 2,700 megawatts). The Projecthas helped reduce the country’sdependence on imported fuel byabout 30%. Moreover, he emphasisedthat the use of natural gas in powergeneration is the cleanest and mostefficient fossil fuel with least amountsof co 2.He also disclosed during his speechthat the Shell energy portfolio will sooninclude a Floating Liquefied NaturalGas (FLNG). He said Shell recentlysigned a Memorandum of Agreementwith the Philippine governmentcalling for a technical feasibilitystudy to determine the viabilityof the development, constructionand operation of an import andregasification terminal adjacent toShell’s refinery facility located inShell Amlan Terminal joinsGK Bayani Challenge 2012Shell Amlan Terminal staffs, together with around 1,200-strongAmlanganons (local residents ofAmlan) and other volunteers fromother parts of the country and abroad, have answered the local government’scall to take part in this year’s BayaniChallenge, a week-long eventaimed at helping re-build the livesof Amlanganons who have lost theirhomes to tropical storm Sendong. The Bayani Challenge 2012,themed “Pilipinas Ngayon Na!” wasspearheaded by Gawad Kalinga,in cooperation with Pilipinas Natinof the Presidential CommunicationOperations Office (PCOO).
