Theworld-class human resources of therefinery made it a huge success.Since its initial commercial operationsin the 60s, the men and women ofShell Tabangao Refinery continueto be at the forefront of innovation,technology expertise, and refiningand manufacturing excellence. It is thepeople that have put their best effortto keep the refinery operating forfive decades, continuously improvingprocess technologies, constantlycollaborating to deliver operationalexcellence, and ensure asset reliabilityand product quality. And it will be thepeople’s unified determination anddedication that will keep the ShellTabangao Refinery operating for thenext 50 years.The Tabangao Start-up TeamIn 1960, 15 engineers trained abroadto study and familiarise themselveswith procedures and systemsoperation in the refinery. After two(2) years of training abroad, the teamcame back in 1962. Equipped withthe experience and knowledge theyhad gained, they were the very first tooperate the Shell Tabangao Refinery.The pioneering team were (in groupphoto, seated, l-r) Pablo Gilles,Amando Mirasol Jr., Johnny Bonot,Pres. J. H. Churchill, Jose Gochoco,Rosendo Ignacio and Juanito Cruz. During thecelebration, five original membersgraced the 50th year celebrationtogether with five other membersrepresented by the wives of theTabangao Start-up team.“Thank you for honouring us. This isone treasure I’ll keep close to my heart.Congratulations for the successful event.This truly is Tabangao, and you’vedone the event the Tabangao way,”said Mr Honorato ‘Atong’ Santos.Meanwhile, Mr Sergio Leyva said, “Ihave never felt so honoured in my life.Thank you, Shell.”Mr Rudy Coronel said, “This is theessence of a true Shell Family. Thankyou for putting us together again.”To mark its legacy and heritage, theShell Tabangao History Wall wasunveiled during the celebration. Thewall showcased Tabangao Refinery’simportant milestones and summarisedthe significant dates and developmentsthat contributed to the 50 yearexistence of the refinery. SWPshell world philippines i 27
