IBSSA official publication 2006Preparations for IBSSA 11th CongressMiami / Florida January 10-18, 2006Prof. George Popper, president of IBSSA <strong>and</strong> Dr. MiklósVarga, member of IBSSA Education <strong>and</strong> QualificationDepartment met Mr. Richard Bradbury, IBSSA Floridacommissioner. Mr. Joe B. Mirza issued a Press releasefor the visit in relation to the 11th IBSSA Congress <strong>and</strong>the 2006 AAU Karate competition. Rev. Philip J. Cascia,a honorary IBSSA member, could not travel to Floridadue to other responsibilities, but he stayed in contactthrough telephone.During the visit, Mr. Edmund Kolby (Korea <strong>and</strong>Vietnam ranger) was also contacted. He is currently amember of US Customs, <strong>and</strong> has been an honorary IBSSAmember since 1 February.With the mediation of Mr. Kolby, numerous activesecurity companies have been contacted, whichindicated their intention to participate in the congress.Sir Jerry L. BRUMLEY, who was abroad at that time,also indicated by phone that he would actively participatein the organisation of the event.Mr. Edmund Kolby <strong>and</strong> Mr. George PopperCOUNCIL OF EUROPE PARLIAMENTARYSESSION WITH A SIMULTANEOUS NGO(Non-Governmental Organisations) MEETINGStrasbourg, January 23-27, 2006Apart from numerous other subjects, the main focus ison the role of NGOs <strong>and</strong> their co-operation with theCouncil of Europe <strong>and</strong> the EU.Important news: IBSSA has been accepted in the‘Mission Europa’ organisation, which has a right toparticipate in the activities of the Council ofEurope. Prof. George Popper, president of IBSSA,took part in the programme as a member of‘Mission Europa’ delegation.During the event, he established contact withthe international anti-terrorism organisation, seatedin the Ukraine, ”International Antiterrorism Unity”.During his meetings with leaders of variousorganisations, Mr. Popper confirmed that at the endof September-beginning of October 2006, an internationalconference will be organised in Budapestwith IBSSA on security for Mission Europa <strong>and</strong> CIPUIOF.On February 13, 2006, the company of Dr. AbelLacerda, a Portuguese IBSSA member, Chelworth– Investments Ltd., organised in Lisbon a demonstrationof a fantastic new product in the worldof USA Sniffex company detecting explosives.The following people took part in the programme:HRH Prince Michael Stewart of Albany – honorarypresident of IBSSAProf. George Popper –president of IBSSAProf. José Cosmelli – Country Representative of IBSSAfor Portugal <strong>and</strong> the new president of IBSSAHungarian Section, Csaba Kertész, who otherwise hasa company engaged in explosive detection <strong>and</strong> neutralisationemploying approximately 70 former military<strong>and</strong> police experts.*Prof. George Popper, IBSSA president, travelled toLisbon between February 11-13, 2006 to attend the‘Gr<strong>and</strong> Council’ meeting of the Sovereign Order ofSaint John of Jerusalem, Knight of Malta, FAP.During the visit, Mr. Popper met Dame Dr. MariaTeresa Costa da Macedo, President of Mission Europa<strong>and</strong> they discussed co-operation among IBSSA <strong>and</strong>Mission Europa <strong>and</strong> CIP-UIOF in the area of security,fight against drugs <strong>and</strong> alcohol, with special considerationto the interests of families <strong>and</strong> children.Mr. Popper was also received by Mr. Rui DanielRosário, cabinet chief of the Portuguese minister ofsolidarity.Maria Teresa will soon travel to Macau, where herdaughter is a high-ranking government official <strong>and</strong> Mr.Popper has offered IBSSA assistance in anti-terrorismdrugs <strong>and</strong> violence <strong>and</strong> other education.
