3. Greetings from Host Pastor and Southern Baptist Convention
President. Dr. Frank Page, pastor, Taylors First Baptist Church and
Southern Baptist Convention President, welcomed messengers and guests to
the 186'h annual session of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and
thanked everyone for their support of the Cooperative Program and mission
work around our world. He referenced Philippians 1:5 proclaiming our
partnership in the Gospel.
4. Devotional. Don Davis, retired pastor, gave a devotional using
the theme, "Give It Away." He shared a story about an individual who went
to India and after 40 years on the field tremendous things began to happen.
He stayed committed to God and made a difference in the lives of many
people. Davis said we should ask ourselves are we making a difference for
Christ in our lives? Are we committed to making Jesus Christ Lord of our
lives? It is hard to give something away if we are not demonstrating it in our
daily walk. He said that commitment is a heart issue and that it is important
that God's people be committed to Him, because God blesses commitment.
Davis said that Carlisle Driggers has made a difference in our state,
national convention, and around the world. He expressed appreciation to
Driggers for how he took Empowering Kingdom Growth and implemented
it in such a way that our entire Southern Baptist Convention has adopted
that vision. He quoted Driggers statement. "the churches are not here to
serve the Convention, the Convention is here to serve the churches." Davis
concluded saying to Driggers, "as ministers, our goal is to finish well. I can
say as a brother in Christ, you have finished quite well, and I thank God for
that."
