ensure their physical, moral, emotional, and spiritual well-being, with a<br />

goal of raising godly men and women who are thoroughly equipped to<br />

live as fully devoted followers of Christ; and<br />

WHEREAS, whenever the light of God's people comes into<br />

contact with the forces of darkness which would erase a proper<br />

understanding of morality based on God's Word, the light triumphs over<br />

the darkness and re-establishes order (1 Kings 18:17 - 40 and Acts<br />

16:16-19); therefore, be it<br />

RESOLVED, that we, the messengers to the 186'nannual<br />

meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, encourage our<br />

churches to offer classes, and other available programs such as Released<br />

Time for Religious Education, which teach Biblical principles to our<br />

children so that they may be able to respond to the many challenges<br />

they receive to their faith; and be it further<br />

RESOLVED, that parents, whether they choose to keep their<br />

children in public school or remove them to another educational<br />

environment, should be encouraged to be personally and actively<br />

involved in their children's education, refusing to simply trust the<br />

system they have chosen, but rather knowing what their children are<br />

being taught and being willing to challenge through the proper channels<br />

any system which denies their right to pass along their biblically-based<br />

moral values; and be it further<br />

RESOLVED, that parents stay informed concerning the public<br />

policy issues which affect education in South Carolina and actively<br />

make their voices heard in the debate about how their children are<br />

educated; and be it further<br />

RESOLVED, that South Carolina Baptists be encouraged to<br />

pray for and encourage those who choose to homeschool or place their<br />

children in private Christian schools; and be it finally<br />

RESOLVED, that South Carolina Baptists be encouraged to<br />

pray for and encourage all Christian parents, students, teachers, staff,<br />

and administrators who choose to continue to be salt and light in the<br />

public school.<br />

The vote was taken, and the resolution was adopted.<br />

On behalf of the committee, Kirt Mitchell presented the following<br />

resolution on Appreciation for Dr. B. Carlisle Driggers and moved its<br />

adoption:<br />

WHEREAS, B. Carlisle Driggers has served the Southem<br />

Baptist denomination faithfully for forty-eight years; and<br />

WHEREAS, Dr. Driggers has received earned and honorary<br />

degrees from numerous institutions of higher learning and seminaries;
