Pupils work on a limited range vocabulary working in teams and maketwenty-four steps towards each other's language and also to Ancient Greek and Latin. Each word acts as a step, and each step brings them closer to each other.AimsThe project motivates pupils to cooperate, search and share their work. They enjoylearning through a short and easy word game and as all of the pupils are beginners inat least one of the four languages and experts in another, they find a way tocommunicate in languages that are no longer in use: Latin and Ancient Greek.Pedagogical valueThe pupils study the notion of etymology as they begin to learn Ancient Greek,a language which many of them have chosen to study the following year. The studyof the Greek and Latin alphabets, their influence on French and the evolution ofAncient Greek to Modern Greek allow the pupils to better understand the notion oflanguage and heritage. Through the exchange of information on words, the pupilsdiscover both similarities and differences between languages which they findfascinating. Consequently, they learn in an interesting way.Pedagogical use of ICT toolsInformation texts are prepared through Open Office and pupils make use ofa common server to store information at their schools. They find images on theInternet using the various search engines of Wikimedia. Through a common platform, pupils consult posted documents and exchange messages via email while teachers useemail and chat to build and follow the project work. This was for both schools a goodopportunity to test the available tools in their establishments.ImpactThe biggest impact was that through a project with a fairly short timeline, the pupilsand teachers managed to work together and take in such a large amount ofinformation. Working together in an interesting way, the pupils absorb much more56
