A Study <strong>of</strong> Burnout <strong>and</strong> Marital Adjustment <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> PersonnelMaslach BurnoutInventory (MBI) hasbeen used to measureburnout as theindependent variable<strong>and</strong> Mishra's MaritalAdjustment Scale(MAS) has been tomeasure maritaladjustment asdependent variable.Person r was used totest the hypotheses.Fulfillment <strong>of</strong> expectations: It shows maximum selffulfillmentfor both partners in terms <strong>of</strong> feeling <strong>of</strong>safety, needs, admiration <strong>and</strong> respect, honesty,responsiveness, <strong>and</strong> cooperation.Data CollectionThe aim <strong>of</strong> the present study is to assess therelationship <strong>and</strong> significant difference betweenburnout <strong>and</strong> marital adjustment <strong>of</strong> police personnelon the basis <strong>of</strong> ranks <strong>and</strong> gender. The scales weredistributed to the subjects separately <strong>and</strong> wereassured that their information would be keptconfidential.Data AnalysisThe data was analyzed on the basis <strong>of</strong> correlation<strong>and</strong> t-test with the SPSS 16.0 version.ResultsThe purpose <strong>of</strong> the study is to assess the correlation<strong>and</strong> significant difference between burnout <strong>and</strong>marital adjustment <strong>of</strong> police personnel on the basis<strong>of</strong> ranks <strong>and</strong> gender.Table 1 represents the significant negativecorrelation between burnout <strong>and</strong> marital adjustmentwith the calculated r-values as -.25** (p.05) while similarity in thinking,tension <strong>and</strong> conflicts, fulfillment <strong>of</strong> expectations <strong>and</strong>sexual relationships also have negative correlationwith the calculated r values as -.27**, -.28**, -.33**, -.34** (p>.01). Thus, the H2 has beenaccepted at .05/.01 levels.Table 1 also shows that depersonalization hassignificant negative correlation with accommodation,mutual consideration <strong>and</strong> respect for in-laws,liking each other <strong>and</strong> personal habits,communication, mutual trust with the calculatedr values as -.12, -.05, -.22*, -.12 (p>.05) Whilesimilarity in thinking, tension <strong>and</strong> conflicts, sexualrelationships <strong>and</strong> fulfillment <strong>of</strong> expectations havealso negative correlation with the calculated r valuesas -.23**, -.29**, -.23**, -.28** (p.05), .21*, .22* (p.05), -.25**(p
