From Perth, students will travelto the bush where they will camp under the stars, experience an overnightcanoe course along the Blackwood River and stay in wilderness settings.Experts will teach abseiling, surfing and caving skills, allowing the studentsto stretch their physical limits while under supervision. This is a rigorouscourse planned for students who enjoy nature, physical challenge and areable to adjust to basic living conditions.Post-Interim Experience:Parent’s night / OnlineReflectionsCourse Difficulty:Moderately Rigorousadventure, students shouldbe physically fitObjectives• Students will separate themselves from everyday luxuries and willpractice outdoor living skills like camping, food preparation and cleanup.• Students will learn group decision making and cooperative skills throughcave exploration, wilderness camping, canoeing, abseiling, rockclimbing, swimming and surfing.• Students will challenge themselves physically, mentally and/or socially.RequirementsPre-Course requirements:• A physical examination and medical clearance.• A swim test at SAS pool.• Students will do research on a topic related to this course.• Students will decide on a project to be completed during and after thecourse. Some ideas for this project might be a photo record of activitieswith a particular theme, a daily record of the course through sketchingor photographs with narration, a film which reflects the atmosphere andlearning objectives of the course, or a student-designed proposal.During-Course requirements:• All students will write daily in a journal, responding to specific prompts.• Students will challenge themselves to participate in all activities.Post-Course requirements:• Each student will complete the project as planned and will craft oneof his or her journals into a publishable piece.
