91Debs stood in the corridor with her hands onher head and her nose pressed against the wall. Inmany ways being corridored was the worst of allpossible outcomes. If the Wart had chosen to whopher herself it would have been a crap-shoot as to howmuch mischief and mayhem she succeeded ingenerating inside Debs bumbags. If she had electedto red-card Debs and send her up before the GrandMaster she would have been guaranteed a mandatorytwelve stroke bare bender. Nonetheless, despite theconsiderable pain of being punished on the barebottom she knew she would be treated graciously andthe punishment would be delivered in a businesslikemanner.However, a trip up before the Deputy GrandDame was a different matter. There was no questionthat she would be soundly thrashed, which was badenough, but what was extremely unappealing was theprelude to the thrashing she felt sure she would beforced to endure.“I’ve sent you a special gift,” the Wart gloatedto Patty during the afternoon break. “You owe me aslap-up meal.”Patty winked. “I’ll give you a blow by blowaccount in the Bunch of Grapes tonight,” she assuredher chum.Deborah stood in the center of the room withher hands on her head. Her cheeks were burning andshe was struggling to keep from weeping with angerand humiliation.
The WoodettesAt five-feet ten inches tall, with flaming redhair and startling green eyes Patty Hodge cut animposing figure. In three-inch spiked heels shetowered over Deborah forcing Debs to crane her neckto meet her gaze.Patty Hodge was a world-class scolder. Shehad first perfected her skills as the ruthless Headgirlof the original Woody School. Despite the Guidelinesfor Extreme Scolding forbidding the use of personallydefamatory remarks Patty pushed the limits. She wasa brilliant academic and extremely articulate. Shecould press the buttons of even the most hardenedinmate.Debs did her best to ignore the vitrioliccastigation but Patty was skillful. She constantlyasked direct questions that forced Deborah toconcentrate in order that she could respond. DebsMorton felt that she was being thoroughly trashed.All the while Deborah was acutely aware of thewye-tipped cane lying prominently on Patty’s oversizeddesk.
