From the Central Adm<strong>in</strong>istration home page, click the Application Management tab.14. On the Application Management page, click the l<strong>in</strong>k titled Create or Configure ThisFarm’s Shared Services.15. In the Quick Launch area, click the l<strong>in</strong>k for the Shared Services Adm<strong>in</strong>istration site.16. On the Shared Services Adm<strong>in</strong>istration home page, click the Audiences l<strong>in</strong>k.17. On the Manage Audiences page, click the Create Audience l<strong>in</strong>k.18. On the Create Audience page, type Information Technology <strong>in</strong> the Name field.19. Click the OK button.20. On the Add Audience Rule page, select the User option.21. In the Operator drop-down list, select Member Of.22. In the value field, type Information Technology and click the Check Names button.23. Click the OK button.24. On the Manage Audiences page, click the Start Compilation l<strong>in</strong>k, which will create theaudience membership based on the rules you def<strong>in</strong>ed. Audiences will not have membersuntil they are compiled.Because audience membership can change over time, it’s best to set up a compilationschedule. You can specify a compilation schedule by click<strong>in</strong>g the l<strong>in</strong>k on the Manage Audiencespage. After that, the audience will always be available for use with web parts, documents, listitems, and other content items <strong>in</strong> MOSS.Us<strong>in</strong>g audiences to display or hide content is generally done as part of the configurationproperties for an item. You can show or hide web parts <strong>in</strong> a page based on audience membershipus<strong>in</strong>g the web parts property pane. Simply type the name of the audiences that you wantto see the content. Figure 4-3 shows a Content Editor web part be<strong>in</strong>g targeted at the InformationTechnology audience.
