Sample sales data in a SharePoint listOnce the list is filtered into views, you can use the list in a scorecard to create morespecific KPIs. From a scorecard, you select New ➤ Indicator Using Data in a SharePoint List.When you define the KPI, you may select from any list in the web application; it does nothave to reside in the same site as long as you have permission to access the data. After youselect a list, you may select a view to use and then an operation to perform. For example, Itotaled all of the sales numbers in the list to create a total sales KPI for each region.In order to use list data in a spreadsheet, you must export it. In order to export the data,select Actions ➤ Export to Spreadsheet from the list toolbar. When you export the list data toan Excel spreadsheet, a connection is made between the spreadsheet and the list. Unfortunately,Excel Services does not support rendering spreadsheets that have such connections.Therefore, you’ll have to unlink the sheet from the list before you use it. This is done in thesame manner as shown in Figure 8-2. In the spreadsheet, click the black down arrow next tothe formula box (fx) and select the query object to select all of the data imported from thequery. Then simply click the Unlink button in the Design tab. After you save the spreadsheet,you can add it to a dashboard from the Reports Library. Figure 8-5 shows a dashboard thatuses a SharePoint list as a source for both the scorecard and the report.

Creating a dashboard from a SharePoint listUsing Spreadsheets as Data SourcesExcel spreadsheets deployed via Excel Services can be used as a data source for scorecards.You create a new KPI from a spreadsheet by selecting New ➤ Indicator Using Data in ExcelWorkbook. After you select a workbook, you can view the data and select cells for the value,goal, and warning levels. This is done through a pick dialog.When you select a cell, you may choose to use the value as it appears in the spreadsheetor you may create a simple formula. For example, you can multiply a cell by a value to createa threshold value. You can also simply type fixed values in for the thresholds. Figure 8-6 showsthe cell picker interface with a cell selected and some values added by hand.
