He earned the Ernest G.Smith ’94 Award. Doug Hobby wonthe Elmer E. Huhn ’24 Award, which ispresented to the correspondent whoactively seeks out and includes in thecolumn many classmates from diverseregions and walks of life.Ed Auble, who chairs theInternational Alumni Committee, isworking with the <strong>Class</strong> LeadershipCommittee and members of <strong>Lafayette</strong>’sfaculty to engage a speaker (a wellknowneconomist or highly rankedcorporate leader) for the InternationalSpeaker Series, which the class funded asits reunion gift. Geesey noted that, as ofDecember, our class’ contributions tothe <strong>College</strong> actually were running aheadof last year’s total.Ed was elected auditor for histownship in November—his first politicaloffice. Since he was a candidate for bothparties, he won handily, 2,250 to 17.Scott Payne is active in twobusinesses he owns: a rep companyselling technical products to themedical, automotive, aerospace/defense,materials handling, and other specialtymarkets and a business marketing carbonproducts to the glass container industry.Scott wants to remain in contact withDalton Marks and Bob Oldt.Hank Lorish is undergoing chemotreatment for a rare blood cancer.While noting things have improvedsomewhat, he is not yet venturing farfrom home.The class was well-represented at<strong>Lafayette</strong>’s opening football game withNorth Dakota State in Fargo inSeptember. George Benson traveledfrom New Jersey to attend, and JohnSutter had only a 45-minute drive fromhis summer lake house in Minnesota.<strong>Class</strong> <strong>Notes</strong>1961Auble, Benson, Hobby, and EdBaumgardner were spotted at the<strong>Lafayette</strong>–Lehigh game.Dick Webster and wife Yvonne spenta sunny afternoon in August with Jim“Stinger” Westkott and his wife, Nancy,at the latter’s home outside Providence,R.I. Jim plays serious softball in a seniorleague and swims to stay in shape.John Bull sent a press clippinghighlighting the travels of son Bill ’85with the Peace Corps. Bill has spentmost of his time with the organizationin Madagascar and Africa. John retiredfrom the Philadelphia Inquirer, forwhich he was an editor, and lives inCenter City, Philadelphia, Pa.Larry Cassel lives in the Cityby the Bay and enjoys travel, friends,and family.John Cunningham and his familyown six licensed seats for the New YorkGiants. Now retired, John and wifeBarbara live in Westchester County,N.Y., and participate in a number ofcharity events.Bob Bogart, Bridgewater (N.J.)Township’s administrator, wasinterviewed by the Newark Star Ledgerabout township cleanup activitiesfollowing the October 2011 storm.Hugh Richardson has had a mostinteresting and rewarding avocation—basketball refereeing. He refereed inthe 1972 and 1976 Olympics. Henow referees high school basketball andis an evaluator of referees for Eastern<strong>College</strong> Athletic Conference. He alsocoaches three sports at Portsmouth(R.I.) Abbey School. Hugh retiredfrom the international division ofEastman Kodak Co., for whichhe was a marketing director.
