In 2005, Johnretired to his family home in Manchester,Vt., and focused on golf and family. Although Jack stillpractices restorative dentistry in NewHaven, Conn., he also travels the world.I remember talking to him years agowhen he had returned from a trekthrough Nepal. Lately, he has beenvolunteering dentistry in remote areasof the world. Honored by the AmericanDental Association, Jack holds afellowship in three dental academies.Roger Alan Kallenberg passed awaySept. 25. A philosophy graduate, Rogerreceived a master’s in urban studies atUniversity of Texas–Arlington. He issurvived by two daughters, two sisters,two grandchildren, and his friend, MavisBelisle. Roger was a beloved teacher atW.H. Adamson High School in Dallas,Texas; a lifelong civic activist; and apassionate leader for many nonprofitorganizations, including Bath HouseCultural Center, Dallas Peace Center,League of Women Voters, PeninsulaNeighborhood Association, andSierra Club. He played for the firsttime in September and underwentphysical therapy so he can resumeskiing. Bob and Chris keep busy withtheir 3-year-old grandchild, JacobLukas, who lives near them inBinghamton, N.Y. Chris was electedpresident of the board of directors oftheir co-op and has made great stridescleaning up the co-op’s operation.Larry Cole was married to theformer Susan Buckley Sept. 10 inPort Jefferson, N.Y. Their courtshipwas rather short (by Larry’s standards)and began with a 16-hour first date,when they attended Homecoming inOctober 1997. Now both retired, theydecided to take the big step and endthe 120-mile, 2½-hour commutebetween their homes. Larry was drivento the ceremony at Centerport YachtClub by his sister in her antique classic1962 Porsche. Larry spends much ofhis summer in boat races, and lastsummer won the Huntington Bay StarFleet trophy.Karl Pusch, history graduate andwannabe civil engineer, has completedhis retirement project: a backyardG-gauge jungle railroad, consisting of300 feet of track and three ponds.Admission is free to all <strong>Lafayette</strong>graduates and their spouses.Bob Darbee, a chemical engineeringgraduate, earned his MBA at New YorkUniversity and then left for Wall Street.He started as a stockbroker and thendid a stint at Bank of New York. Boblater founded Omni Capital Corp.,which provides marketing services andinvestment banking to both private andpublic companies. Recent ventures havebeen in biotech and drug research anddevelopment. Bob is a member of NewYork City Yacht Club and is on theorganization committee of BermudaRace (from Newport Beach toBermuda), in which he enters his yacht.Ernie Steigerwalt and Sherry, hiswife of 27 years, live in Allentown, Pa. Achemistry graduate, Ernie is one of onlya few cylinder tank inspectors certified bythe Department of Transportation andDepartment of Environmental Protection.He has operated his own company formore than 30 years. His son, Sean ’87,covers the West Coast. Ernie is a privatepilot, with more than 2,000 hours. Heand Sherry enjoy antiquing and theirhorses, dogs, and cats.Bob McCabe recounts a get-togetherin 2010: “Don ‘Stick’ Hibbard and Ihave stayed in touch for years now, andsince Ernie Steigerwalt lives in Allentown,Pa., and Bob Darbee lives in New YorkCity, we have been able to catch up atthe Phi Psi House. On July 2, 2010,Stick was visiting his mom in Sundown,N.Y., so the four of us rendezvousedthere and caught up after 41 years. Weall agreed <strong>Lafayette</strong> had prepared uswell and was where we had learnedleadership qualities at Phi Kappa Psi.“Stick was an American civilizationgraduate and earned a Ph.D. inAmerican Studies at University ofHawaii, where he remained with hiswife, Debbie, and their children, Noahand Moani. Stick was director of thestate Historic Preservation Commissionuntil retiring. Now, he is a well-knownauthor of eight books on Hawaiianarchitecture, and he has authored onebook on the history of rock music.His books are in Skillman Library’sspecial collections/archives section foralumni authors.
