Kathy is at Vanguard,hiring, managing, training, andhandling communications for theretail department.Joe and Des Karabots McNulty livein Flemington, N.J. Their son, Andrew,graduated from University of NewHampshire, where he played football.He is in pharmaceutical sales forBoehringer Ingelheim. Son Chris ’12 isa double major in economics/financeand international affairs. He is lookingfor a job. Daughter Kara is a sophomoreat Gettysburg <strong>College</strong> and member ofthe golf team. She received Division IIIAcademic All-America honors last year.Bonnie McCorkindale (Katie ’15),Janet Edelstein Bortnick (Justin ’13),Jim Alexander (Michael ’15), andGinny Logan and Dan Rockafellow(Will ’14) attended the legacy dinner.Mark Goldstone returned tocampus in November to speak withstudents in the Law and Society, Introto U.S. Politics, and Political Humorclasses of James Lennertz, associateprofessor of government and law. Markalso gave an evening lecture with aninformal reception. I heard JimAlexander’s son, Michael, was in one ofthe classes. Mark has been active withthe Occupy protesters in Washington,D.C., since he is a leading attorney inFirst Amendment rights.Joe Connolly landed a new jobas materials manager at Lumitex inStrongsville, Ohio. The companydesigns, develops, and manufacturescustom backlighting for membraneswitches, keypads, overlays, LCDs,and other displays. It also designs andmanufactures custom fiber optic devicesand surgical and phototherapy lightingsystems. In his new position, Joe isresponsible for procurement andinventory management for all materialsused in Ohio, California, and Taiwan.1982 Robert J. Leah beganher career at DCC in 1990 as an adjunctand joined the full-time faculty inJanuary 1997. She is an active memberof American Society for EngineeringEducation. Her professional activities arefocused on curriculum to support theawareness and development ofsustainable systems and retention ofstudents in engineering and technology.She has served as chair of the assessmentcommittee and faculty representative forthe SUNY Chancellor’s Group thathelped develop the 2010 SUNY strategicplan. Leah is also active in the community,most notably as treasurer of HudsonValley FIRST ® (For Inspiration andRecognition of Science and Technology)LEGO ® League executive committee.Leah writes that it was an honor to berecognized by her peers.Leah and Whitey have been marriedmore than 28 years and have lived inHighland, N.Y., for 22. Whitey earned amaster’s degree in environmental policyfrom Bard <strong>College</strong> and works as a civilengineer for the Department of PublicWorks in Dutchess County. Their elderdaughter, Shoshana, graduated fromSuffolk University in December 2010and works in Boston. Their youngerdaughter, Ariel, attends TempleUniversity. Leah and Whitey hopeto make it to our 30th reunion.Cathy Sigda Voorhees and husbandDave serve on the board of MountVernon (Va.) Council of Citizens’Associations. The MVCCA is anonpartisan group of about 60 civicassociations/homeowner associations.Cathy serves as chair of the MVCCAtransportation committee and wrestleswith the government to ensure citizens’needs are represented. To spend moretime with her teenage children (Marien,16, and John, 13), Cathy decided toreturn to the U.S. Patent and TrademarkOffice, where she started after graduatingfrom <strong>Lafayette</strong>.Sophia Stratakis Huling sings withand serves as assistant director of BostonByzantine Choir, a mixed a capellasinging group committed to presentingByzantine Orthodox Christian liturgicaland paraliturgical hymns in the Englishlanguage. They have produced fourrecordings (see cover photos online):First Fruits, Mystical Supper, Thy Passion,and Thy Resurrection. Sophia hasperformed throughout New England,New York, and California at TheAscending Voice, a symposium devoted toa capella sacred choral music. Sophialooks forward this year to her nextrecording with the group, a disc of musicrelated to Christmas.Cathy Fowler Conte enjoyeda September get-together with herbest friends from <strong>Lafayette</strong>. NancySmolenski Laughlin, Chris Neff,Lisa Harfst D’Augelli ’81, and shegathered at Laurie Rhodes Cautilli’sbeach house in Ocean City, N.J. (seephoto online). Cathy’s eldest, Alyssa,just started her first year at Gettysburg<strong>College</strong>, while her 8-year-old, Brynne,keeps husband Michael and her feelingyoung at their home in Westfield, N.J.Nancy’s elder daughter, Kelly, juststarted her first year at University ofVirginia, and daughter Kate, 15, lives inDenver with Nancy and husband Tim.Laurie’s elder daughter, Kristen ’10, isin the physician’s assistant program atUniversity of Medicine and Dentistryof New Jersey. Her other daughter,Megan, is at Bucknell. Laurie and Georgelive in Langhorne, Pa. Chris and daughterCaroline live in Silver Springs, Md. LisaSPRING 2012 • lafayette 71
