The high-performing LHWsdo so once a month. Of the households served by high-performing LHWs, 94 percent saidthey had visited them at least once in the past three month, compared with the lowestperformingLHWs (the bottom 25 percent) where only 76 percent of their households saidthey have they had received a visit. However, this is a huge improvement over 2000, whenthe lowest performing group of LHWs had only visited 45 percent of their households (Table8.2).Table 8.2LHW household visits, by Performance Score quartileMeasurePercentage of households who report that the LHW visited thehousehold within the last three monthsMean number of visits of LHW within the last three months perhousehold, as reported by householdsLowest quartile Best quartile2000 2008 2000 200845.0 74.0 86.0 94.01.3 2.0 3.7 3.1Source: OPM LHWP 4th Independent Evaluation, Quantitative Survey data, 2008.All LHWs have a supervisorWhile, during periods of expansion, the Programme finds it difficult to recruit LHSs at theappropriate rate to equate with LHW recruitment, by 2008 only a few LHWs wereunsupervised (Table 8.3). The ratio of LHS to LHWs at the time of the survey was 1:23, withfewer than 10 percent of the LHSs now having responsibility for more than 30 LHWs.Regular supervisory visits of LHWs The Programme target of 75 percent of LHWsreceiving a supervision meeting in the previous month has been met (Table 8.3). Only a fewLHWs had not received a supervisory visit for more than two months. Results have improvedsince the 3rd Evaluation (Table 8.3). LHSs tend to make 30 visits a month to LHWs, whichmeans that some LHWs are being visited more than once a month.Table 8.3LHW supervision meetings2000 200830 days 70 7831–60 days 12 13More than 60 days 10 5Never had a meeting 1 1No supervisor 7 3Total 100 100Source: OPM LHWP 4th Independent Evaluation, Quantitative Survey data, 2008.53
